anywhere between 55-72 I deal w/ comfortably.. but prefer it on the lower side & I’m sure if I lived elsewhere I could handle it much cooler. My thermostat is set on 62 now. I save money on electricity, sleep better & it’s just healthier. I’m white & a redhead. Redheads are sensitive to temperature changes.. we can adjust but it takes time. Walking into someones house with the heat banging at 74+ it feels like I’ve walked into an oven — the heat literally slaps me in the face.

@RowAshore Couple of possibilities as stated in video, if you did not vacuum air is in system equals no cold air or you did not put enough freon in the system. If compressor turns on means you have enough pressure to get some cool air and that the system is electronically and I would say for the most part mechanically capable of producing cold air.

the video was good, but some of the information was wrong. first you said you prefer to service the vehicle ( Initially) with the vehicle off so you can hear any leaks. good, but you can only service the vehicle when it is off for the Initial service of fridgerant. the compressor will not run with no freon. second you said the ideal pressure is 30 on the low side and 150 on the high, false because pressure is effected by temperature, you have to follow the pressure/temp chart to service correct

FIRST, You always disconnect the power to the outdoor condenser before using water near it!

It is also advisable to disconnect the power to the indoor furnace as this will disconnect the low voltage to the condenser.

You should always keep the water stream straight with the fins on the condenser.
Do not use detergents as many have an oil base which would insulate the fins.

Instead, use a mild coil cleaner.

Can you actually suffocate from dry ice?

Dry ice can be a very serious hazard in a small space that isn’t well-ventilated. As dry ice melts, it turns into carbon dioxide gas. In a small space, this gas can build up. If enough carbon dioxide gas is present, a person can become unconscious, and in some cases, die.

In short… I wouldn’t use it…

I tried that in a pickup truck with no a/c and I got a cool breeze but not enough to cool the cab. I ended up turning it off and rolling the windows back down after about 30 minutes.

@bubber25 NO! Never use dry ice. It is very dangerous. When it melts it produces carbon dioxide, just as poisonous and dangerous as carbon monoxide. Even in a totally sealed container, never use dry ice.

It’s not meant to cool the cab. It’s meant to direct a cool breeze locally and pointed at your face and torso. The directional ports to blow the cooler but not frigid air are to create a chilling effect.

You can further this with the use of a flexible hose on the exit ports to place under your shirt.

While this one model which works just fine for me you can create one with one or several exit ports that could be closed if you want to increase the output of the others.

unless your freezer/refrigerator is out side you are not cooling anything except for maybe a while or so. remember the carnot cycle is only 40%-60% efficient so there for you are actually working your freezer/refrigerator harder thus making it hotter in your house. you got to throw the heat some where right? i mean your freezer/refrigerator doesn’t just eat/destroy heat its a pump right?

I made an ice cooler ac unit like the one you see. I use about 6- 2 liter bottles of water frozen and it lasts for hours. When they melt, I just put them back in the freezer and use them again. It works well cooling the rear of my Chevy Express cargo van. Its not like an ice box but does remove a lot of humidity.

Last summer we had a Unico High Velocity central air conditioning system in our home. Our contractor sent drawings of our home to Unico and they designed the system. Our previous home had conventional central air conditioning . The Unico System out performs the conventional air conditioning system in every respect- rapid decrease of humidity, house cools quickly, system is quite and efficient. It is excellent!

when this happens (when your car gets hot after running it for a while) get a water hose and spray water onto the condenser. If the air becomes cooler then the auxiliary fan is not sufficient or the coils are clogged and needs cleaning. Also check if the belt of the compressor stalls. In this case, the belt needs tightening.

I don’t know if anyone can help me……my car stopped blowing cold air and I recently took it to a mechanic to see what it was. They said it was the air compressor and it would be 800-$1000. I honestly don’t think it’s the air compressor, it doesn’t make any noise at all and the other mechanics that i’ve been to said there was no leaking. Does anybody know what else it could be?

Thank you, it was actually two wires somewhere in my air compressor that broke apart. All the mechanic needed to do was sawter them back together. Works like a charm! I paid $17 compared to the 800-1000 the other mechanics wanted to charge

@willowst91 If it cycles that frequently it often indicates insufficient refrigerant charge. According the to the Ford shop manual, an air conditioning compressor in a normally functioning system should cycle on and off about 4-5 times per minute.

Compressed air is okay for this but besure to not used a high pressure. A safety type nozzle will work fine however one of the older types that allow the full force will bend the louvers. I would not set the pressure to more than 30 psi. Most of the newer nozzles sold today are the safety type. Most have holes on the side of the tip.

You know if you are going to attempt to do an informercial. Make sure you have the correct information. Those are not louvres you are blowing with compressed air they are condenser coil fins for the purpose of heat dissipation.

Pull a vacuum, know what your gauges are telling you, attach the can to the yellow line, purge JUST that line by opening that line up and pressurizing it from the can til it hisses, then allow only, ONLY the can into your vacuumed-system. Do Not open up your valves once under vacuum unless you are ready to add the refrigerant. If you do, you will allow ‘outside’ air, and moisture, which will harm your system, into your AC system.

@theASEtech Some crankcase heaters need a permanent live feed, others need to be off when the comp is on and on when its off, with these you can run them off a normally closed contact on the compressor contactor. Depends on the make and model of the equipment what type of heater is fitted.

You might have a dirty evaporator if there isn’t enough air (cold or hot) blowing through. If it isn’t cold enough after charging it, you could have a leak or a plugged filter drier. If the refrigerant has all leaked out, you’ll have to replace the filter dryer, (repair the leak first) and evacuate the system before charging it.

Most of these “expertvillage” videos are nearly useless. They give the most general information, but don’t show you how to do the things you need to do. For instance, exactly how do you disconnect the hoses from the compressor? The fittings connecting the hoses to the compressor often require a special tool, but they don’t tell you that–instead, they just say “disconnect the hoses”, and point in their general direction. These guys need classes in how to transmit information.

@purplefetus3 : Generally speaking, you can tell if the clutch is engaged by looking at it.

Turn the AC on at idle, and go look at the face of the pulley on the compressor. If the face is sitting still, or isn’t turning at the same speed as the side of the pulley, then the clutch isn’t engaged.

I check it to earth then across each pair of windings. the values on the compressor should add up, or be very close. if they are way off it means trouble.

Yeah, the babysitter, lawsuite ridden society called America. People don’t seem to have comon sense anymore and even worse, sue others for not stating the obvious when they hurt themselves. It’s kind of an insult to the still intelligent. I haven’t seen a contactor like that either. Mostly what you’re used to. Americans like the gas fired furnaces, and oil fired is still around but less common. Not many heat pumps, but alot of areas, especially up north get too cold for heat pumps to work well.

If you’re gonna troubleshoot single phase compressors I would recommend a meter that can measure capacitance . Those run caps are really easy to test.

Haha You like the el cheapo electrical contacts they use here eh? I hate them with a passion, so many electronic appliances use them, and will be hot to the touch because of bad contact. Id love to see nice beefy contacts like I have seen in your other videos here in the US.

It is interesting to note how chunky the compressor unit is compared to others. I am seeing more and more like the mini-split you showed in that video being used in the US.

shipping a coil like that to the US would be very costly, thats why I simply don’t do it (had way too many people waste my time with shipping requests on heavy items)

I think this is effective because under the same logic of water sitting under a tree of shade. and running into the sunlight there is a difference in heat transfer. slight but real. the water in the cooler is cooler. just because its in the shade to ake it even more effective.I think having a HUGE cooler filled with water would be way more effective because the amount of “cool” water would outway the amount of water in the exposed tubing. thats in the elements of heat.Wat if U used antifreeze?

Both of the fans serve the same purpose. They are both radiator fans that turn on at the same time. They don’t vary. I have this 2.7L Accord . The A/C hasn’t worked since I bought it. I just haven’t had the money for a new compressor. Both of the fans always run together, even when I don’t have the A/C switch on.

@dubiiie10 you need to remove the window, then install a piece of plywood above it in place to cover most of the exposed window. I also highly suggest using brackets to support the weight of the A/C. Relying on the window to hold the A/C in place is not smart. Especially if you live in a apartment, 20 stories high. A better option is using a portable A/C with flex hoses. They are easier to install in a crank open window.

Make sure the air conditioner has a slight down tilt so rain will roll outside instead of inside. .Sliding Windows with plastic or pvc tracking can be damaged by a heavy ac unit. I put wood boards on the ledge outside the window to help support the weight and stable it. I also put wood pieces in between the tracking to keep weight off the thin plastic. You could also make a wooden support from the window to the floor to keep as much weight as possable off the window frame.

Three things wrong with your installation job:

[1] You should use an a/c window bracket to prevent your a/c from falling out of your window.

[2] A thief can simply raise your window and take your $300 a/c if he has a ladder.

[3] After taking your a/c (or not), a criminal can crawl into your house for more thievery and other mayhem because your window is unlocked when the unit is in place.

@Daydragon1234 We can’t have your room hot as hell can we?!! Your AC unit fan speed, may have been bumped &/or moved without you knowing it. There should be like a fan speed you can adjust when your AC unit is actually on pumping cold air. Check it out. Plus make sure you don’t change the actual “mode” to fan or your fan will be the only thing on & not the cool. I will wager your fan speed is on low & you need to change it to high. yo man this is gonna sound kinda stupid..i’m in a really really dusty environment and i was told it was effective to spray water into the back of the air conditioner..I noticed it loosened up a lot of sand but it continues to freeze when put on a ‘Cool’ setting. My options are limited – no vaccuum, no sink or soapy water etc..you get the point.. What can I do?

@SaSinKaL Not sure if there’s anything you can do since it sounds like your AC unit may be on its last legs. How old is your unit? Usually they last 5 to 7 years then they’re ready to be replaced. I just ran across one that was freezing up & forming a thick layer of ice over the fins. An AC company said that it could be leaking or low on fluid & they thought by the time I paid them to look at it & repair it, it would be better to spend the money on a new unit. Joe :0

@SaSinKaL You could pull the insert out of the wall & take a closer look to see if you find anything suspect. Remove the outside cover then pull the insert unit out of the outside housing. You could also rinse it off after you remove it. If you can’t pull the insert out of the housing, see if there’s any screws keeping it from pulling out. Check for screws on the exterior of the unit & also on the front sides. Good luck. Joe :0

I have an old air conditioning unit sitting in my porch… it’s dusty and dirty. Is it safe to just hose the whole thing down with water? I will also be removing the filter out and wash it. Any other tips to cleaning the unit? Any place I should avoid hosing down with water? Thanks!

@dzlor Can you pull out the insert? You can then get to the rest of the unit. Spray some cleaner on it & clean the fan blades & housing areas. Also clean the fins which are located just behind the washable filter. Make sure you have the unit unplugged before washing down. You can pretty much hose down the entire unit once unplugged. Try not to directly spray water around the electrical connections/wiring. Do a good job. Joe :0

My guy was great,

The stat was set for 60 when it switched off. You have to take the top panel off before you can take the bottom door off of that York furnace, and visa versa putting them back on. The moron in the video didnt get it on all the way. GEEEZ..just leave to the pros…we all paid good money to learn this trade.

This was not informative at all. As a matter of fact it should be a “Don’t let this happen to you video.”.

The air flow over the filter is uneven and return air trunk is under sized.

Do you guys ever consult a true pro or do you just open up an HVAC book and misuse and misinterpret the information?

@therohvac I agree, especially on the return drop! to many “technicians” don’t know air, and don’t know ductwork. I can see that you do. I like a RA drop big enough for me to stand in Media filters a standard with my installs too. Keep up the good work!

@fothgt 1-circuit breaker 2- thermostat stopped working(temp control in the house).3- a/c compressor inside air handler broke .

one of these. start with breaker, then thermostat,a cheap one is $10.
